Information on Government shutdown

Government Shutdown (from wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_shutdown)

“A federal government shutdown causes a large number of civilian federal employees to be furloughed. Military personnel are not furloughed, but may not be paid as scheduled.

The exact details of which government functions would stop during a shutdown is determined by the Office of Management and Budget. However, some specific aspects have applied to all shutdowns in the past. Among these is the closure of national parks and passport offices. "Emergency personnel" continue to be employed, including the military, border agents, doctors and nurses working in federal hospitals, and air traffic controllers. Members of Congress continue to be paid, because their pay cannot be altered except by direct law. Mail delivery is not affected as it is self-funded.”

Office of Management and Budget (from wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_of_Management_and_Budget )

“The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is the largest office within the Executive Office of the President of the United States (EOP). The Director of the OMB is a member of the President's Cabinet. The main job of the OMB is to assist the President to prepare the budget. The OMB also measures the quality of agency programs, policies, and procedures and to see if they comply with the President's policies.

The current OMB Director is Sylvia Mathews Burwell.”

On the '95 and '97 shutdown (
from wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_federal_government_shutdown_of_1995_and_1996 )

“According to Gingrich, positive impacts of the government shutdown included the balanced-budget deal in 1997 and the first four consecutive balanced budgets since the 1920s.“

My Opening day Pirates roster perdiction.

First an apology to Travis Snider, I've been spelling his name Snyder whoops. My bad.

After watching some spring training and following a little bit of camp this is how I feel the Team will look like April 1st.

1B Garrett Jones
2B Neal Walker
3B Pedro Alvarez
SS Clint Barmes
LF Starling Marte
CF Andrew McCutchen
RF Travis Snider
C Russel Martin

Starting Pitching
Wandy Rodriguez
A.J. Burnett
James McDonald
Francisco Liriano (barring injury)
Jeanmar Gomez/Charlie Morton/Jeff Karstens/Jeff Locke

Relief
Jeanmar Gomez
Charlie Morton
Jeff Karstens
Jeff Locke
Tony Watson
Mark Melancon
Jared Hughes

Closer
Jason Grilli

Position bench players
Michael McKenry C
Josh Harrison 2B,3B,SS,LF,RF
Jose Tabata LF,RF/Alex Presley OF
Gaby Sanchez 1B/3B(maybe)

Starting position players, only real question at this point is right field. It seems the team is pushing Snider but Tabata looks in great shape this spring, other than that tattoo on his neck and has been hustling making a strong point of making the roster if not starting. Presley may get the nod only because he is a lefty and can play center, though moving Marte to center may be a better option if needed.

A couple players I'm rooting for are Jerry Sands(1B/RF), Tony Sanchez( C ), Kyle McPherson (P).

I think Jerry Sands will be up in September if not earlier. I think Sanchez would make the team or have a fighting chances but McKenry is very popular and solid. McPherson has some good stuff Should one of the Pitchers hit a rut or Karstens gets injured he will be on a short list to get a call.

Garrett Cole (P) and Jameson Taillon (P), two of the top 15 prospects on MLB.com don't have a chance to make opening day. However, I feel as the trade deadline gets closer Wandy Rodriguez and A.J. Burrnet maybe dangled for trade depending how the season is going. If so they may get a call. One or both will most likely get a call in September.

MLB 2k12 bug

MLB 2k12 has a bug where if there are no games being played on the day you are trying to play the game it will lock up.

To fix this you change the date on your computer to a day that a game was being played (for example Auguest 6th 2012) and load the game.  If you also log into your 2k account and let it update the roster and such it will work fine, in theory anyway.

For me every time I reboot I have to change the date again.  I made a little winautomation tool that will change the date to 8/6/2012 for so many seconds and then set it back. to the current date.

This works for windows 7 ultimate 64bit, I haven't tested it on any other OS but it should work on any system that has the 'date' command line tool.

Just double click, set for how long (in seconds) you want the date to be August 6th  (default 300) hit okay and then run the game.  On my system 60 seconds is more than enough time.

I hope this helps someone out there.

Virtualbox and remote desktop...

If you are like me you like to setup virtual servers with virtual box and also like to connect to them with remote desktop or rdesktop.

Every time I setup virtualbox to do so I forget to install the virtualbox extensions (on their download page)

This is more of a note to myself to remember to do it :-)
